This post is about how to look expensive on a budget.

Not sure what to wear to look expensive? No, you won’t need to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars buying luxury clothes. All you need is to add a few simple changes to your outfits and you can instantly look more expensive.
In this post, I share my exact formula for putting together classy and expensive-looking outfits without the price tag. I even share my secret tip for saving hundreds on buying new clothes at the end of the post!
How To Look Expensive On A Budget
Tip #1: Make sure you get the right fit.

One of the most important parts to make your outfit look expensive is to wear clothes that fit nicely on your body. This means your pants fit snugly around your waist and the pant length falls at the perfect length.
You don’t want to wear clothing that is too tight or loose unless that’s the intended fit. It can be tempting to buy clothes that look really nice but don’t fit your body shape – don’t fall for that!
Tip #2: Invest in quality basics.

Wearing clothes that make you look expensive doesn’t mean chasing the trendiest designs. It’s actually the opposite! Simple, minimal, and good quality basics look more classy and expensive.
With quality basics, you don’t need tons of them. You can just mix and match them to create many different outfits.
Tip #3: Wear neutral colors.
The classiest and most expensive-looking outfits are neutral outfits. They look the most flattering and it’s so easy to create a versatile wardrobe with neutral colors too. That means you save money!

Tip #4: Wear clothes with natural fabrics.
Clothes made with natural fabrics like cotton, silk, wool, and cashmere likely look more luxurious. They might cost more upfront but they also last longer too. You can get many more wears from each piece.
Some clothing will have a blend of natural and synthetic fibers. Look for clothes with a composition of majority natural fibers.
Tip #5: Add a statement accessory.
A typical outfit usually consists of a top, a bottom, and shoes. To elevate the look and make your outfit look more expensive without splurging, just simply add a 4th piece as a statement accessory.
This can be a statement earring, a belt, a bag, a scarf, a hat, or even a jacket or blazer. Once you start getting into the habit of adding one more extra piece to your outfit, it will make all the difference.
Tip #6: Wear a structured bag.
Speaking of accessories, not just any bag will make your outfit look expensive. I’m very particular about choosing bags that are structured and have a hard shell.
Structured bags look more polished and chic. You don’t need to spend a ton on a luxury bag – there are tons that are very affordable within the $50-300 range.
Tip #7: Don’t forget about styling your hair and nails.
A lot of the time, we only focus on how to make our clothes look more expensive. But we often forget about the other parts that go into making our entire aura look expensive.
That’s where styling your hair and nails come in. The simplest way to style your hair is to straighten it for a clean and sleek look. For a more feminine look, you can loosely curl your hair. I personally like adding some hair oil to give it a bit of shine. I use this Kerastase one.
Hair is more important than nails but if you want to go a step further, you can paint your nails a classic neutral color. I sometimes add a clear coat if I’m feeling something super simple.
Tip #8: Keep it minimal and avoid wearing flashy logos.

Wearing clothes that scream luxury brands actually has the opposite effect. People might get the impression that you’re either wearing the fake version of name brands or just trying to show off.
It’s better to wear clothes that represent “quiet luxury”, a term that has been quite popular lately. It means wearing more low-key outfits but subtly showing you have expensive taste.
Tip #9: Go thrifting or use Rakuten to save on new pieces.
The absolute best way to buy good quality clothes and also save money is to go thrifting. I find so many good pieces at my local thrift store.
But sometimes when I need to buy something new, I use Rakuten to help save money. Basically, you need to download the Rakuten Chrome extension, sign up, and then click on the “Activate Cashback” button before each online shopping trip.
I’ve saved anywhere from 2% to 20% off each purchase. I always check if Rakuten can give me cash back before I place my order.
FYI: Use my link Rakuten link here to get $30 cashback after making your first purchase. Not sponsored, I just tell all my friends about this because it’s too good of a deal to pass on!
